Privacy at Yoohoo
This is the plain-English version of what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is also the only version. Last updated: 10 August 2026.
What we collect
We only collect what the product actually needs to work:
Your account and profile
Your email address, and the profile details and photos you choose to add: your name, age, city, languages, experience, and anything you write about yourself. You decide what goes in your profile, and you can edit it any time.
Your quiz answers
If you take the 2-minute eligibility quiz, we keep your answers (age, passport country, driving, English level) so we can tell you whether you qualify and set up your profile without asking twice.
How the site is used
We use PostHog to understand roughly how people move through the site, which pages work and which confuse everyone. This is approximate usage analytics, not a diary of you.
Cookies
A cookie for your language preference, an anonymous session cookie so your quiz answers survive to signup, and attribution cookies (UTM tags and Meta’s _fbp/_fbc) that tell us which ad brought you here.
Advertising
We advertise on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). The Meta pixel runs on our pages, and when someone signs up we send Meta a server event so we can measure which ads worked. The only personal detail in that server event is your email address, in hashed form. We never send Meta your profile, your photos, or your messages.
Who helps us run Yoohoo
A few companies process data on our behalf, each for one clear job: Vercel hosts the website, Supabase stores our data on servers in Sydney, Australia, Resend delivers our transactional emails (the ones the product sends you, like confirming your signup), and DeepL machine-translates chat messages, but only when you or the person you’re chatting with turns translation on. When payments launch, payments will be processed by Stripe, and your card details will go to Stripe directly, never to us.
Your choices and your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@yoohooaustralia.com and a person will handle it. Deletion is honoured except for records we genuinely have to keep, and we will tell you if something falls in that bucket.
If you are in the EU, the GDPR gives you the same rights under formal names: access, rectification, erasure, and portability. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your own country, though we would rather you tell us first so we can fix it.
How long we keep things
We keep your data while your account exists, because that is what makes the product work. Closing your account in the app hides your profile and pauses everything, and you can reopen it later. If you want your data actually deleted, ask us and we will delete it, keeping only what we genuinely need for a limited time: legal record-keeping duties, records of past placements while a question about them could still come up, and safety records that keep the service safe for everyone. We do not keep things because they might be handy someday.
